It's been so long ago since I put the lockright in my front end that I can't remember all of the parts that was involved in the third member. I still have the 4 spider gears. Is this all I need to take the bloody lockright out and bring it back to stock?
Also can I swap out the third member in the front that I presently have for a third member that has 4:77 gears? I thought this was discussed previouly but I sure cann't find it. What was the vehicles and years that had this ratio stock? I'm just thinking way ahead in case I win the lottery and are able to fix the tranny I'd like to get the front back to open diff and regear so that the tranny isn't screaming to keep up so that my newly licensed driver (my daughter) has something to go back and forth with to school and work with. It's starting to annoy me sitting in my driveway broke. I'm so close of just junking it and buying her something more suitable.

you will need the 4 thrust washers that sat behind each gear.

yes, all 10-bolt front 3rd members are interchangable.

'89 Trooper RS (2dr SWB). Some other Troopers had them as well, but these are hard to identify. Some say look for snowflake rims and the wide tire package. Others say a certain option code (S2J I believe). But you'll have to confirm with these. However, consensous is all 1st gen RS's came with them.

I got my 4.77 3rd on Car-part.com. It's a stock ratio in a 98 Amigo (4cyl I think).

Not sure what your vehicle is, but re-gearing the rear may not be as straight foward <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Two. There are only thrust washers for the side gears, not the spiders.

Yes, early model year '98 4cyl 4WD Amigos had them. And the option code is actually S2J. THREAD

Body Damage is Cool
Maybe I'm getting this all confused. Is it the front or the rear third member that the 4.77's are hard to come by?

I beleive the rear are more rare, since the front 4.77's were offered in more applications.

With so many 32 & 33-inch tire-wearing Isuzu owners all vying for them, BOTH the front & rear 4.77s are getting pretty hard to findà

However, if more folks start doing what Andre (Starchild) did û and install an Isuzu 4.77 in the front, while re-gearing their rear D-44 (in a Rodeo/Passport) with an æoff-the-shelfÆ 4.88 R&P û it probably wonÆt be long before the front 4.77s are considerably harder to find than the rears.

Six Isuzus, so far... still have three of them.

HUH? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

OK, now I'm confused!

Wait - Are you referring to the fact that the 4.77 10-bolt front 3rd member was available (when equipped as such) in ALL of the Isuzu platforms, versus the rears being either an Isuzu 12-bolt or a Dana 44, depending?

Hmmmmmmm...
I guess maybe there are a few more front third members out there than rears.

Nevermind <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />

Basically, for every 4.77 Trooper, there is a 10 bolt and a 12 bolt third. For every 4.77 Amigo, there is a 10 bolt and a D44(HD).

Therefore more 10 bolts out there <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
