I did a search on this, and I found a few threads on trouble shooting, where to find, etc. But I was wondering what specific advantages do Manual locking hubs offer versus the OEM setup? Mind you this is coming from a person that has limited knowledge when it comes to 4wd drivetrain etc. I have had thoughts about doing this, but I wanted to make sure it would benefit me most considering most of my wheeling is minor to intermediate mud/light trail wheeling. Basically your average weekend warrior if you will.

One thing not covered in the other post. I got stuck once and then tried to go into 4wd and it didn't work since the vehicle has to move forward to engage. All I'm sayin is that if you aint in 4wd all the time when you're wheelin' you could be askin' for it.
HTH...

HTH... For clarification, he's talking about a rig with auto-hubs.

My auto hubs engaged when stopped and stuck.... I know that because when I was stuck in snow and they had disengauged going from forward to reverse.... And were making that big bang as they re-engauged.

There were times that i was stuck and placed it in 4WD and rocking the car . You could hear the noise when the hubs locked and the car moved foward. I went to the manual hubs just to assure positive engagement and hopefully improve my gas milage. I cant say that i have noticed any improvement in milage. But i do have peace of mind. Conner

Conner I also agree, the autos will engage while standing still or in a mud hole (if they are working properly) because it is the rotation of the ft drive shafts that lock them in, not the tire rotation. The Hub lock light will not come on until you move because the sensor requres more than one rotation of the ft drive shaft to indicate the hubs are locked. I also done it for the piece of mind, you turn the lock dials they're locked. (or something's broke)

Hmmm. That's very interesting that they lock that way. Mine didn't...
Oh well, I've got the manuals now anyway...
