Getting the Wheeling Fever
Ok I've looked through the online 1993 Toyota Service manual, but can't find any info on the wiring or the sending unit for the low fuel light. Here is the situation:
1994 V4 4x4 extra cab DX, but has the gauge package (large tach/speedo & fuel gauge on lower right) 4 small gauges, 2 large.

I have the dash apart now so anyone know if the little orange warning light is just a bulb I can try to replace ? Or how would I test the sending unit which I assume is in the tank or near it ?

Thanks,
Tried doing on a search on these forums...found nothing.

There is a bulb for that if I am not mistaken , should be a sending unit also . But call you local Toy dealer to , the service techs can tell you for sure .

Your right, there is a bulb and I tested it to a 9 volt battery. Bulb is fine so its either that the light is workikng (I just haven't let fuel go down to sensor level) or the sensor is broken.

I looked in haynes manual and owners manual couldn't find, At how many gallons left should the LOW FUEL LIGHT COME ON ? Or about how many miles left in tank ? I believe tank capacity is 17.2 gallons

Thanks for help guys.

Usually when you get down down to around 30 mile or a little more it will come on , varies with different makes of vechicles .

if your fuel tank sending unit was ever replaced it probably wont work. mine never has.

My fuel light comes on steadily when I have <1gal left in my 17gal tank for my 22r. Or when stopped on a steep downhill when the gauge is at E.

Why?

Wouldnt that be one of the reasons for replacement in the first place?

i dont really feel like the low fuel light is neccessary and i replaced mine due to the fact that my fuel gauge would not read less then half a tank and just drop to E. now my gas gauge works and im more or less happy w/ it.

There are apparently two fuel senders. A 2 wire and 4 wire unit. The 2 wire sender is the most common. The 4 wire sender includes the sending unit for the light. Like they said, if your truck never came with the tach gauge cluster or if the sender was ever replaced, the light probably won't work. I would imagine in some cases, the wrong sender might have been installed at the factory as well.

You could probably look at the top of the gas tank and see how many wires are coming out of the sending unit.
