Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello, I ran a search here for "tall rims" and did not return anything so I thought I would ask. Maybe I'm stuck in the past but - what's the deal with tall rims? - such as 22". It does not make sense to me to have such a low profile tire on a huge rim for off road traveling. I almost have to laugh every time I see an SUV with big rims. It looks ridiculous IMHO - but perhaps I don't know something that they do. I believe a large sidewall is important to grip rocks and such - or if anything to protect your rims from rock damage. Am I just too old school to appreciate the big rim look? - lol how about them spinners! Good for mud?

Body Damage is Cool
The large diameter wheels are impractical for tires under 40" OA diameter. You need sidewall flex for traction on uneven surfaces and the unsprung weight will cause drive train and suspension damage very quickly. Thats why you see the vehicles w/ 20"s- 26"s ect with steering damage and extemely fast wear on all components. Now if the tire itself is very large then the axels and steering components ect must be upgraded to handle the stresses. Installing 24"s usually will decrease stopping distance turning radius and alignment because rarely does anyone think that other components need upgrades to even run them. Pick one of those babys up sometime, I bet your eyes pop out.

I saw a 79 caprice here in Mobile that the owner stretched the springs as far as they would go, then welded angle iron to the side of the coils just fit the $4k worth of wheels under his $200 smoking badly krylon painted car.
There is a store here that is called Rent and Roll, you put your title up (and sometimes more) just so you can rent the stupid things. Just so you can have an impractical, shiny, non improvement to your vehicle. I guess I don't see the point either.

They have those places here too. I about laughed myself out off the side of the road when I saw the place, because I heard an add on the radio, but I thought it was a joke!

But, whoever thought of the idea is probably making quite a profit!

I know in certain groups of people, you are actually judged by how big your rims are. Your considered a poseur or something if you have a vehicle like an Escalade with stock sized rims. Its regoddamndiculous!

Ha! Thats funny. I saw a car that had the same 26" sticker on the side, advertising what size rims they had. How lame!

I think they look like a hot wheels car with those ugly things on. I have seen a Z71 lifted with 26" wheels and low profile tires, and it looks horrible in my oppinion.
