ok, heres the deal. i have calmini shocks that came with my 3 inch suspension lift. i`ve been running them on the trail for the past 4 to 5 years. one is leaking. are the calmini`s worth it to just replace the bad one, or should i replace all 4. if i do replace all 4, any recomdations. i actually heard some bad news about rancho`s. i may just bite the bullet and buy bilstien`s. i know those are quality. ANY HELP

Four years is a pretty good lifetime for shocks, IMHO.
This is a good chance to upgrade!

Can't say what do buy, but I'll recommend not buying Rancho 5000's. In my experience, they're just too stiff for our stubby rides.

OME shocks are great - I had them on my 99 Trooper and loved them. Ain't cheap, though.
Bilsteins are great shocks too - I have them on my Tahoe, but I prefer a double wall shock for an off-road rig. If you ding a monotube shock it can prevent the piston from cycling, rendering the shock worthless. Whereas a ding on a double wall shock just reduces the fluid reservior volume slightly, with no reduction in performance.

(OK - they're a little stiff up front for my D44, but I need 'em to be because of the limited uptravel...) FWIW - good time to upgrade. My understanding is that the Calmini shocks are rebranded Gabriel's. I've run 9000's ($$$) and now 5000's. I've never missed the 9000's adjustability, however... - mike

I would get cheap shocks. Its easy to drop a lot of cash on them but I honestly think the condition of your leaf spring shackle bushings, upper a-arm bushings, and lower a arm bushings dictates ride quality much more than $300 shocks. Plus with the lift your front shocks are not doing much. I regret buying rancho 9000x. they were $300 something, rusted in 2 years, broke when I tried to remove them, I never adjusted them, and ride quality still sucked since I was lifted 3" in the front. I sold the rears for $20/each. what a joke.

Thank`s guy`s for your feedback. Look`s likes the general concensus is to replace all 4. Now i just need to decide with what brand. I`m surprised to learn that the Bilstein`s are only single walled. I guess now would be a good time to get those UB SKIDDERZ from Darlington, especially since I got hung up on some rock`s my last time out on my shock mount plates. Darn,I hate when that happens! mo` money.

I`m surprised to learn that the Bilstein`s are only single walled. Well there are advantages to monotube shocks, too...but they are better suited for road use IMO...like I said, I have them on my daily driver.
