Getting the Wheeling Fever
I've been having a idle problem with my 32/26 DGV Weber. This damn thing WILL NOT idle right. It's only at idle. Once it goes above ~ 1000 - 1200 rpms, clears up. I have the idle mix screw at SIX turns out. And it still stalls sometimes. It's running lean, not rich. Not pulling enough fuel from the idle ports. Engine vaccum is at like 12 in/hg, but I believe that is from ***** idle. I've gone 2 sizes larger on the idle jets, to no avail. I have .065 main and .060 secondary at the moment. Had .070 for a while.
I have had the carb apart many times. All new seals, pwr valve, ect. Parts were all soaked in carb cleaner overnight.
Fuel/air passages blown out with compressed air. Ran the sniffer on it, and it's too lean at idle, and too rich at part throttle [from idle screw too far out]. *Butterfly valves looked good, and appeared to seal fine.*

85 22R auto. Just rebuilt this spring.
Mods on engine
EB large port head
EB 270* cam
Oversize valves
cyl bored .020"
Above carb with Redline adaptor kit.
I have no vaccum leaks. None. ZERO. Not even the brake booster.
1 yr old fuel pump [stock]
1yr old fuel filter
Float level is good
Coil/dist is good. Even checked on ocilliscope.
NGK plugs/wires
Compression test was good. I did it months ago, and can't remember exactly what it was, but it was within 10psi across the board.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Before I drive this damn thing off a cliff?..... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />
The only thing I can think of at the moment is maybe I need larger air corrector jets/emulsion tubes. But I'm sick of throwing parts at it. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me can give me some advice.

These are the baselines. The jet sizes should be printed on the top/side of the jets. I'm not even going to attempt to figure them out in .070 and such. This is what you need to start with. Baseline works perfect for my dads 86 22r. If you turn the idle jet of more than 3 turns it makes no difference. They don't have a very wide range of adjustment. You just have to go up to the next size.

You also didn't mention what your timing is set at. Thats pretty important to idle.

60 /70, ect is the size of the hole in inches. .060"/.070", ect.
Timing is set per the factory manual. I forget off the top of my head. 10* ? ad with vaccum ports blocked.

I didn't bother with anything but the idle jets because it is only at idle that I have this problem.

Trust me, going from 3 to 6 turns out makes a HUGE difference on my engine. It won't even run in gear at 3 turns out....

As I stated, I have gone up from baseline already. Main is .065 and secondary is .060. I have gone as large as .070 main, but it makes almost no difference. As the engine is pretty much stock, I can't imagine it requiring anything larger than that, so I went back down to save a little bit on gas.

Sorry, you got me confused when you said main and secondary, I thought you were talking about the main jets not the idles.

I hope you ment 10* BTDC not after.

Do a quick check and make sure that the mains and aircorr are the right sizes.

Also, check your idle screw. The baseline is 1-1.5 turns in.(from where the screw first touches the throttle) Any more and you miss the idle circut completely.

No offense but I'm just trying to make sure the basic stuff is correct before thinking too hard.

Cool man. smile

Yeah, it's BTDC = advanced.
I've already tried that [link]. :P
That's how I [tried] to set it up the first time, and every time after...
I've got new mains and air corrector jets in there. I can't remember size off the top of my head... Got the sized from the same site.

The only time I had trouble getting one to idle - I had some crap in one of the internal idle passages...
Taken it apart and cleaned it out? Remove the idle screw and blow it out..

I've had it totally apart several times.
Sat in carb cleaner all night and all passages blown out with compressed air.
I even made sure all the idle passages had air coming through [blocked off certain ports with my finger].

I'm not sure... It really seems like its not the carb if you have everything right on it... LMK if you are selling it smile
