Getting the Wheeling Fever
I did search, but being new to the whole 4x4 scene, it didn't seem to help me much.

I have a 1994 Isuzu Trooper 4x4 5speed. I found a local guy that has a complete set of 5 15x7 snowflake wheels with 31x10.5x15 tires that I can trade my 16" plain steel wheels for. With the factory 15x7 snowflake wheels and a 3" lift, what size tire would I be able to run safely? Mostly the truck is for daily driving, but will see some offroading and snow.

Would a 32x11.5x15 fit without rubbing, or how about a 33x10.5x15?

Thanks for the help and great site guys/gals,

Kevin

With 3" lift 33"ers will fit just fine, 10.5" or 12.5" width... or 285/75s will fit on the factory 16" wheels.

Would I want a 33x10.5 or what? The reason I am swapping wheels is to just get rid of the plain steel wheels and get the snowflakes, plus there seems to be better/cheaper tires for 15".

Thanks for the reply,

Kevin

Ok, thanks alot. For my lift I am planning on cranking the torsion bars/ball joint flip up front and springs/spacers in the rear. I already have Edlebrock shocks all around, but will probably need to replace them or get shock extensions for the front/replace the rears. Does this sound good?

On the 33x12.5 tires, would they stick out? If so, any ideas how much? Just wondering if I need to buy flares or not. Local cops and WV laws don't seem to like tires that stick out smile.

Thanks alot,

Kevin

The tires shouldn't stick out too much, sence your going to be useing the snowflakes. And you don't need new front shocks at all.You might be able to use the stock rear ones if there long enough.

Would there be much rubbing with these? Like I said before, it won't really be offroad much and even when it is, it won't be anything to severe at all. Mainly curious if during normal driving/turning if it would rub.

Thanks for all the great info and I really like this site.

Thanks,

Kevin

Well I'm not sure with the second gens...someone else with a second gen will most likely post up soon

Sounds fine, that is what I will be doing to my Trooper before too long...to fit 35s (with a little sheet metal trimming that is ).

I already have Edlebrock shocks all around, but will probably need to replace them or get shock extensions for the front/replace the rears. Does this sound good?
If the shocks aren't worn I would keep them. You could put a small spacer on the front like this. On the rear you can gain an inch or so of droop with longer shocks, but you have plenty of rear flex to start with on a 2nd gen Trooper...and you have to be careful of the brake lines, may need longer ones with longer shocks. Put some Indy4x brake lines on your Xmas list And, you may also need to extend the bumpstops to keep the longer shocks from bottoming out. You'll have to decide if it is worth it to you...

On the 33x12.5 tires, would they stick out? If so, any ideas how much? Just wondering if I need to buy flares or not.
If you are uing Isuzu wheels they won't stick out much at all. You won't need flares. Now with the 2" backspacing wheels I am going to put on ...flares might be necessary but we'll see.

33x12.50's will rub quite a bit. All of the 2 gen troopers that I have seen have either had rubbing or cut the fender and beat the firewall back a little bit. My 33's rubbed a lot up front on the bumper and on the firewall when turning. I cut a lot out of bumper and out of rear of fender. Don't just expect 33x12.5 to bolt up no probs. My tires also stuck out a couple inches. I had to put on a set of fender flares to cover the tires. I don't have any pics of firewall where i had to "clearance" it. IIRC, I used a 5 lb sledge.

Pics thanks to LTCDon
