Getting the Wheeling Fever
The Motorcraft FL-400s fits, and has the same psi bypass valve. I used it once, but it's kind of a pain to get in there if you leave the skidplate on..

Edit: If I remember correctly the supertech and fram # is 3600, but the motorcraft is better because it has a silicone adbv.

Edit again: The reason a lot of people don't like fram is because they use cardboard endcaps for the filter medea instead of metal like most if not all others use.
The only fram I'd feel half good about using is the toughguard because it has a silicone adbv and everything about it looks good except it too has cardboard endcaps..

Body Damage is Cool
fram has a poor quality filter media and often lacks(or has a non-functioning) bypass valve.

will the package say whether it has a adbv? this v-6 has a filter that has the inlet side facing down.i have also heard that different filters have different psi ratings a on the bypas valve.

Roll Me Over
I've been running a larger than OEM filter on my 3.0 in the factory location. PL20195 from Advance. It's supposed to be a Ford SHO filter (PH3614) #. I went back to using stock size filters just to make life easier b/c I have 3 toyotas to buy filters for. easier to have a bunch on hand.
FYI: don't ever use Fram; junk. Pure One, Mobil 1, Baldwin, Napa premium (wix) are good choices.

We call for a 12-18psi bypass valve If I recall correctly. It's not a 100% science in bypass valve technology, just as long as it has one in the general area of PSI, you're good. However I did read that the location of the bypass valve my play a role in how good a filter is. b/c when the valve opens oil washes over a dirty filter and then goes into the engine. I know the PL20195 is like that b/c I opened it. Next I'm going to cut Pure one OEM filter and OEM Mobil 1 filter open see how they have it placed. Ford filter is supposed to have the Bypass at the top, meaning oil doesn't wash over the element when it opens. I'll update everyone when I get some more filters that i'm interested in cut open.

1515 is a wix filter(rebadged by napa) for a small block ford, as well as most of their other engines, notably the 2.3 pinto 4 banger that has the same filter orientation as a toyota!

also, if you look in a filter lookup at the parts store, the 2L diesel will call for the ford filter directly!

alright for reference you can look up filter numbers on wix's web site, you'll notice that the only difference between the ph3614 and ph3600 is the length and that the fl400s is the same as the 3600..

I've used factory Toyota oil filters on all my Toyotas and Lexus vehicles and see no reason at all to use a longer, taller or larger capacity filter.I got 254k on my 4runner,270k on an LS400,246k on a 4x2 truck and 125k on my wifes Sienna LE.Oh yea my IS300 has 2.3k on its Lexus filter. If its the price e-mail me and I can sell you some at a good price by the case,I will even UPS for free. kcourtright@germainlexus.com. I am just one of those people that use factory parts on all my cars.I feel confident Toyota can make a quality filter so why try something else. They are in the business to sell cars and trucks but their reputation for reliability is what mainly does that.Just my .02 worth.

Frams don't last "extra" long. If you replace your oil and filter every 3750 mi as suggested, you won't have any problems but, if you are lazy and wait until 5k or more, the filter falls apart. I use Toyota or Wix (NAPA name is also wix). Tundra filter sounds like a better idea, though. I think I'll get one of those next time.
