There's so little "wild" left in the world that even I- "right wing nut job" over here, hates to see a beautiful animal like that shot dead.
you know what? let's stop right there. I completely agree that there's very little "Wild" left but it's NOT the fault of Smith and Wesson... it's that gun in your pants.
Firearms don't build cities that sprawl and spread and occupy every corner of the freakin planet. It's the numbers of people who just keep spreading and building and reproducing and spreading..

How many wild animals still live in Los Angeles??
You want more "WILD"? make use of the dozens of birth control products out there. Get snipped. Holster your man-cannon. for $%@#$'s sake quit making more people!!!
and yes, I have "put my money where my mouth is" in that regard. I am a terminal bud on the family tree. If you add up all the houses my children won't be living in, all the cars they won't be driving, all the garbage they won't be making, all the hamburgers they won't be eating, all the trees that won't be cut down to support their lifestyle... all because they won't exist in the first place - hell I could shoot a thousand mountain lions and still be less of a hazard to nature than anyone greedy enough to reproduce.
But, despite all that - I don't hunt. I don't fish. Barring insects, I haven't killed anything that wasn't food, threatening my food supply or safety or that of my family, nor do I ever intend to. I don't kill for "fun" or for "sport" - but I own, respect, and maintain practice with modern firearms for the same reason any of us wears a seat belt or locks our door - it shouldn't be necessary to explain one's preparation for survival.
So urban sprawl is to blame now?
The fact is, people are having less children then ever, my parents come from the baby boomer era of 5+ children. I come from the generation where 3 children is seem as outrageous. Its not the fact that more people are being born, its that less people are dying, modern medicine and assorted safety technologies have extended the mean life expectency to 80+ where as in the pre 50's people on average lived to a max of 70, and the percentage of infant mortality was much higher. Added to more safety in homes, business', and on the road, more people are living healthier and longer, and need places to live.
Now if you wanted to go further, you could factor in that families are no longer living in the same houses for generations, with several parts of the family all living under one roof. Instead people are building houses younger, or moving into apartment and condo complexs, with more and more going out on their own, more buildings are needed, to build the building more forest's need to be cut down, more factories built to supply the people.
Dont get me wrong, by all means more people can stop breeding, there are many gene pools I'd love to see ended. By no means do I mean yours, so please dont take offense.
Now I'm too lazy to go back and proof read all of that, so much of it may not entirely make sense, but I think my overal point was laid out.
