............... I was also wondering ZUK's opinion of cutting the overload off behind the rear axle once a "secondary suspension" is installed. The front section of overload may still help with axle wrap. Maybe the lower coil mount can be a ubolt flip kit ...

What do you mean MY OPINION ....I think that's a novel idea. I already spent 30 minutes under there just staring at that ugly over-load. The back half is not needed at all with the secondary system and the front half will stop just as much wrap-up as before.....actually it will stop more because I will take the half board down to the spring shop and have them put some tweak bends to raise only the front lip (the front 12" or so) up about 2 inches which would let the front overload "hug" the front leaf pack more solidly. This should not stiff it up.....with the back half cut off it should be a little softer yet.

You know.......if the coils where a little higher poundage rating....like 250 or so.....I could, just for grins....cut the entire rear of the spring pack off and the coil would 100% support the "up-down direction" cause that's all that coil springs do.(Leaf packs generally support in all 3 directions.) Well with the rear 5 leafs cut off, the front half of the leafpack would now act as control arms. It would be drivable but it would also still need a panhard. A panhard(which is basically another "control arm" in the same direction as the axle length) would not be very hard to make. Now that would be wierd looking...but very functional.

Zuk inspired me to do this quite a while back when he posted these picks last time. I got some springs from Auto Zone for about $20.00. I did basically the same thing but just a little different. I have a shell on my 92 and it was sagging severely, but this leveled the truck right out. Awesome idea Zuk....it has served me well.

ha! My friend Scotty was having sag issues with his new 5" AllPro rear packs. They articulated nicely and were very soft riding but they were "settling" beyond acceptable limits. http://gearinstalls.com/scottcoil.htm
The center coil saved him. The dual coils would work just fine for you. It sure is alot less fabrication involved. For 2" of lift, the 150 pounders would fit the bill. I bet the 150# works for all needs. Someone wants a little more lift, just add a 'spacer block'. It's so adjustable anyways....ZUK [/quote]

I'm not real happy with my AllPro's either; for the same reason as your friend.

Once I determine which coils I need (I replied to your PM), I need to know how to acquire the parts. Are you putting kits together for sale, or only providing information on which parts to buy/fab?

Btw, the link you provided in the post I'm replying to didn't work for me.

The link was not working because the server slowed down.....still might have issues. I could not even connect to my homepage for awhile.

I will be throwing a couple kits together for you and a few others....then take it from there. Want to hear what you guys say about lift and ride.
CXan't shoot a price yet but it will be reasonable. Just the coils alone are 125 a pair. That's cheap I guess. Calling SAW right now and get 2 sets moving my way.

Sway A Way is closed today....so will get this taken care of Monday.

Geriatic---- Since you measure over 12" right now, I will see about getting a set for you 16" long total....normal length is 12 inch no load on the coil length.

I have some time on Sunday to fab up 1 "kit" ...I only have 1 set of 150# coils on hand now..... maybe Kona would bring some cash over and WE will install it....just a thought. Then Kona could give us a report afterwards.

Seems like you're getting pretty close to that 4-link i was wondering about eh ZUK? I really like this idea and am extremely tempted to go outside and lie under my truck planning it out....but it's raining , and think it could be very efficient in the articulation department . I think instead of a panhard running parallel to the rear axel, i'd used two links from the top of the diff on either side of your spring, running forward and mounting just ahead of the rear spring perches.......just another idea. I think a rear swaybar would need to be added.........but only for on the road .

And here I thought you were making a funny...

Hey, ZUK- I was hanging out at a shop and oogling a 4Runner with portal axles and airbag suspension, and I thought to myself-

Hey, moron, pay attention. What if you did a ZUK and put not a coil on your diff, but an airbag, manually adjustable to haul out that 1,000 lb. trophy bull elk you've never gotten and never will except in your dreams?

Know any sources for said simple airbag assemblies, available without the computers and other evil technology?

That's funny!
EDIT----air bag sources are available.....I bet Google knows.

Airlift...

ZUK - About how much does this process run? I've been looking for a way to get my truck's rear end back up. I've been getting quotes ranging from 250-900 for a new set of rear springs for my '93 pickup. I haul a lot of tools and I've been sitting on the overloads when empty for a while. It seems like your solution would do the trick.

You will like this ALOT BETTER than new springs.....but first, give me a measurement as shown in the top pic of this thread.

8" with minimal weight in the truck.

OK Kona....since you are local, you get first dibbs. When do you want to come over? I will assist in putting it on. Won't take but 1 hour. Downloading pics right now...........................
