Those things looks awesome ....want to build one soooo bad. Is there a setup that can be baught, like stock, and then modified as knowledge and skill increases? Was reading on the rccrawer forum, and read something about a stock clod something something something.... would do better than...blah blah blah, wondering if you can purchase a stock one of these crawlers to start on. Sorry i'm asking here, but some of those guys on rccrawer really flame the noobs & people who don't know what to do. Tempted to go buy one of those nylite's but want to know if there is a more capable and improvable stock option. Thanks.

A good starting point would be a clod. I'd look on ebay, you can get them fixed up pretty cheap.
89 trooper, tera low t-case gears,5.38's, 3" indy4xsus lift3"body lift,safari snorkle,warn winch,custom bull bar,custom rock sliders,warn hubs,35x13.50r15,custom rear bumper trooper pics

They arent toys. They are electronic equipment. You buy toy rc cars from radioshack. Its a hobby, and people really put a lot of time, effort, and money into these things, and can get pretty bent out of shape sometimes.

Honestly, the only truck that is any good stock is a TXT-1, and the base truck costs $350, and then you have to buy all your electronics which if you buy the right stuff will run you a few hundred more, and then your back up to $600. Any other trucks that are stock, suck. Especially the clod. TLT's are too small. Everything else is too expensive and not very capable out of the box.
My advice, if you dont want to save up for parts or you dont want to spend $600 or more, buy one of the Nylints. If you really want to build or buy a crawler, get some clod axles and build the rest. (or buy a pre-built chassis)

Thanks for the info, i think i'll probably take both options...the wall mart in the next town, closer than mine, has a bunch of the 1:18 nylites...pretty cheap for $45, just to mess with over this winter break and such, and begin saving and trying to collect parts, axels, etc. for a custom made crawler.
Is the clod a good type to go for modified? for a beginnner? I liked the type with the drivelines and trannys, TXT, but figured that would just be more parts that could break...keep it simple?

I want one of those Nylints too! Maybe I'll ask for one for Christmas. Clod will be the easiest to build for a beginner. They are very forgiving since they have no drive shafts, which means you don't have to worry about pinion angles and transmission setups. A lot simpler, and perform better.

Was going to go over to "wally" mart today to pick up the Nylite to play with, but took the oportunity to work on a grill instead.....still not sure if it was worth it..haha.
That last link on your post trooper is awesome! If i had the money i would buy it, i like the fact that it's just like a normal full size truck, and it would be cool to play with, and then whenever i modify my rig, i could modify the small one the same. But sadly college takes it toll, along with slashing a tire on a tree and having to borrow money to buy new ones, money is not very abundant as of now.. . Otherwise i'd be all over that deal.
Where would you find the bodies of toyota trucks for those things?

Early Christmas present from the wife! (its the 1:18 Nylint) Read the first page of this post, it tells how to get the Hilux bodies. Be prepared to spend $200-$500. heck, I've seen a NIB body go for $1000!
