Downshifting can get exciting; it's called a compression slide, esp with A/T. I put 'er in neutral and coast/brake if driving one. If the intersections are bad, I leave a car length in front of me in case I get a panic stop from the rear.

On them $20-dollar days, here's a tip--have the person wanting the tow hook up their car themselves. I had a guy (officer ) wanting me to get him out of a berm.

Capt: Hey, if my truck gets damaged you'll pay for it, right?
Me: No sir.
Capt: Well, why not?
Me: I'm being a good samaritan sir, I didn't have to stop.
Capt: Well, if it's damaged, who will pay for it?
Me: Not me sir. Have a good day. (unhook from his rig, give him a salute, climb into Ol' Blue, drive away)

Dano--- where did he go? OR as the saying goes, "I never get lost, cuz people are always telling me where to go!"

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

He, as in the officer?

Well, he went back to check to make sure the people who were truckin' up the mountain had chains.

Is that who you meant?

We got our first snow up here in Maine the other day and by the time we had MAYBE an inch there were cars (mostly SUVs) off the road. I saw 2 in a one mile section.
