Can anyone tell me what the torque spec is for the end of the flexible powersteering hose (the hose that exits from the driver's side of the power steering pump) that attaches down next to the radiator (connects to the pressure switch?)? I can't seem to find it in my Helms manual(s). I have a '97 Trooper 3.2 auto. Thanks, Taro

I don't see how you can get a torque wrench on a hose fitting unless its a banjo or you have special attachments and a calculator. Just make it fairly tight, if blod vessels pop out on your forehead, you're probably over-tightening.

Yeah didn't think about that until after I posted. I was hoping to get a sense of how much I should tighten it. I wonder if putting a torque wrench on the closed side of a combination wrench with the other side on the hose fitting might work? Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

just put it on nice and snug, without breaking anything.. if it leaks, tighten it some more. the plumber way worked fine for my steering gearbox hoses..

That won't give you an accurate reading since you're increasing the length of the torque wrench. There are certain calculations you have to do to compensate.

Thanks all. I'm hoping to knock it out tonight if I can stay up long enough. Getting older sucks.

You can make an adapter to use with a torque wrench. Just take an open ended tubing wrench and heat it until it starts to glow about a half inch from the head and bend each end so they are 90? and the two ends are in center alignment and parallel with each other when looking down the length of the wrench. Get an allen head socket for the end where you will place the torque wrench. I have used this technique a couple of times, quenching the bends with a water mist from a spray bottle after bending keeps the metal from getting too soft or too brittle. A wrench made like this will not be off much when you torque an object, of course, you cannot apply a lot of torque without twisting the wrench handle. I prefer Williams or Craftsman wrenches for this mod.

Mike, thanks for your tip. I ended up just tightening it the best that I could and so far, no leaking. I aspire to eventually try your advice, but am merely a young grasshopper. I know without a doubt though that the Isuzu knowledge that people so generously pass on and ingenious input like yours make this one of the best forums out there. Thanks.

PS--I should also add good natured ribbin' as well (touche Jim )

Don't worry about it... if you got it reasonably tight,
it's doubtfil it would leak.

If you noticed, the hose ends were flare fittings and unless
you over tighten it or cross thread it, it should seal up
just fine.
