Body Damage is Cool
Yes, i started the hack job on my birthday last May (05). Just went out to do some measuring and marking and then saw that my windshield was cracked...ugh..."That tears it," i said to myself. So i cut it that day.

I used a 4 1/2" angle grinder to cut the panels and a cheesy Campbell Hausfield 110v wire welder to tack stuff back into place; had to make special cuts on the roof since it had a sunroof. (I worked in a custom body shop years ago in Florida.)

It's ugly close-up but i don't really care. She hauls wood and rocks up from the lower part of my property. Don't have to worry about busting as much side glass in the woods, also it's less top-heavy. I also made a basic overhead hauling rack for it since the bed is very short. The rear doors do not open anymore and will be hidden sometime in the future to lessen the dork/redneck factor.

The rear hatch was cut just below the glass and is now held in its new position via (laugh a bit harder now) BUNGEE CORDS. I can remove it for major ventilation, same with the sheetmetal/angle iron plate below it...remove 4 bolts and 4 bungees and fart-all-you-want, baby.

Lower part of tailgate still opens sideways with the spare attatched... kind of a PITA, really. But novel.

If i hack another 4dr., it won't be an extended cab; however there's plenty of storage behind the front seats on this one!

I've blathered on enough; i'll send a few more pics soon (however embarrassing). Just keep in mind i didn't have a proper shop, tools and materials to do this in the first place.

P.S.
I've started setting PT posts for my shop building yesterday...can't wait to tear down my temporary shed and carport and move in the tools.
