Just having a Diplomat lying on the desk gives a sense of security to an executive - they serve as a visual reminder to would-be assassins and mutineers - and are particularly useful when they are artfully handled during negotiations.... great as a pointer - particularly when aimed at the opponent.
You might think it's crazy, but imagine yourself in a confrontation where first you have the knife and then your opponent has it - or his knife is bigger. Which image gives you the most confidence?
Oh, the fun 'n' games of bidness.

I knew a MBA that didn't get the job after a interview. He had inside connections and it was found out that he wore a cheap black plastic watch with his nice 2k suit
We had a case where a big shot Japanese industialist was not properly handled at our company. Therefore we had to send our "People" to meet his "People" at Hotel Nikko in San Francisco. I get there and they have the a huge conferance room rented. Four hours later around 10 PM his "People" showed up, they would call every hour or so during the wait and say they were having dinner, then after dinner drinks then cigars etc. We saved the deal by waiting and keeping our mouths shut. After we signed the deal we were informed to be downstairs for breakfast at 7am to thank Mr. big shot in person. BTW there is something just wrong about having Sushi for breakfast
The reason I tell you this is because his "Person" pocketed my Mont Blanc I wasn't even in on the deal just another suit to stand there and look good.

I was given set of Mont Blanc when I graduated...never had a clue what they were worth...lost 'em somewhere. I seriously don't think I'd use a pen like that even if i DID have that kind of money...I'd feel guilty every time I saw a little kid that looked hungry or had worn out clothes.

I'd feel guilty every time I saw a little kid that looked hungry or had worn out clothes. No problem - use the pen to write him a check.... Anyway, you probably didn't lose them.... the kid probably stole them. Frank

There only a hundred bucks or so, no need to feel quilty. Also think about all the bic's our company goes thru in a year. If everyone had a Mont Blanc and treasured it; not only are you saving money your helping the environment.

wow.
With all of space explored, and everyone on earth given free health care and food, it's good to know we can kick back and enjoy our $150 pens.

That's right Eric - just think how enjoyable it would be to use one to sign the order to have the human race neutered..... but you'll probably have to fork up a bit more if you want to look good doing it : DiplomatAnything less and they'll question your authority and tell you to go neuter yourself. Frank
