I was moving bits around the shop last night and I had the back of the Amigo open. With the shop roll-up door immediately to my back, I was trying to unzip with one hand, open the gate with the other, all while holding a bag in my teeth. As you could imagine, I soon had the opportunity to pick the contents of the bag up off the floor.

What the heck was Bestop thinking when they started the zipper on the passenger side, so that it was fully zipped on the driver's side, all the way across the tailgate from the door latch?

I'm tempted to flip the zipper on the main top, since it appears to be unravelling its retaining stitches. Any good upholstery shop should be able to restitch the zipper...

I'm still tickled with the soft-top (seals better than any others I've seen), and especially happy with my replacement rear window (thanks, Steve! ), but what were they thinking?

Randii

Top, eh? That is a big assumption you are making there.

It means it might actually leave the garage and *need* a top!?!?

If your zipper works fully, you're way ahead of me. I cracked the original rear window in my BestTop while undoing it one very cold winter morning. The replacement window ($100 IIRC) from BestTop zipped in just fine... but when I went to unzip it a couple of days later, it would only unzip 80% of the way before getting bound up to the point that me holding the rear bumper with my left hand and pulling down as hard as I can with my right hand is just enough to unzip it extremely slowly. And the part of the zipper that gets bound up does not stay zipped on its own; the first 4-5" of it are flared open. The zipper on the replacement window looks fine... but it doesn't look to be exactly the same as the one on my top; the 'teeth' look slightly taller. Since they are from the same company, my only guess is that they started using a different zipper at some point (my top is almost as old as the truck itself). I've just made it a point not to unzip my top anymore than necessary the past couple of years

I guess that Randii has finally found an advantage of living in California, other than being close to the Rubicon.

I think that Randii's top has about 6 extra years of life of it compared to one off of a similar year Amigo.

If it ain't being used, then it ain't getting worn out, right?

Don't worry, Randii, I won't pick on you.

I like that reverse design. I keep a bunch of tools, spare parts, and rags in a basket bungee'd to the back left of the bed. When I need one, I walk down the drivers side and there it is, easy to reach in and grab.

When I want to open the door, I unsnap the bottom, but leave it zipped up, and just duck under the plastic.

When I unzip it 3/4 of the way, it flops over the passenger side....and I'm on the side to open it, instead of doing what you're thinking where you start from the right, unzip to the left (drivers side), then cross back to the right to open the door (or walk around the door if you've opened it first).

When I go to close up, I close the door, flop the back over to the drivers side, and zip it up...finishing up on the drivers side.

One think I disagree with is the seal. I've never gotten it to seal on the top or sides right. One of my best top snaps never worked, the spacing's off, and the rubber seal never seals securly into the top (I get water inside off the roof if it's raining and I'm doing over 55).

Our mileage, apparently, varies. I mean that for real, I just rolled over 180k and the O2 light came on.

[color:"white"]? 04 Rodeo DI ?[/color] 75k mi, body damage on the 1st weekend I got it.

As far as I know my top is stock and still opens the way you guys are talking about. When I first got the Amigo the zipper around the rear window wouldn't work as advertised. I took the top to the local car upholstry shop to have the zipper replaced. They said to smear Vasoline on the zipper , but it's work great ever since.(2 yrs so far)
