What is the normal oil pressure for the 3.2 SOHC at 2000-2500 rpms? Earlier this week I had my check engine light come on and noticed that the pressure was low(from what I seem to remember as normal). When I checked the oil it didn't even register. After adding more oil the pressure didn't seem to change much at all but the CEL didn't return. Any thoughts?

Thanks In Advance <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

My '96 idles at about that 85 psi mark (when full) and runs just slightly above that at 2-2.5K.

Did you pull a code?

BTW, I just hit your link and my Rodeo now looks sickeningly like yours <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />.

Hmm... 'cause mine starts out at about 55 and by the time it's all warmed up it hangs out just above 30 at 2500rpm. So this is too low then? Any ideas? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I had a code the first day I noticed the problem but haven't had a problem since. Don't know how to pull the codes so I don't know what the code was. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, your Rodeo is awsome. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> Your suspension makes mine look <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />. But hey, it's all about the fun. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

*EDIT* Sorry - I'm an idiot <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/drunk.gif" alt="" />.

The 85psi mark is the half-way mark, correct? There is a small "dot" (.) at about one-quarter of the guage (about one-half of the way to the 85 psi mark). This is where I usually idle (say ~40-45 psi(?)). Under acceleration, the oil pressure will usually increase a bit (say to about 45-50 psi).

Your psi sounds about normal on warm-up, but does sound low when warm (compared to mine). I'm assuming you've checked the oil level and it's spot on...did you try a different (oversized) oil filter? Could the oil pump be on its way out (off the top of my head, I'm not sure what the symptoms or checks for this might be)?

I'll have to check my Hanyes and shop maunual ...

To pull a code on your '94 I think you can jump two terminals with a wire or paperclip (works for my ABS; I have to use a code reader for my OBDII). Do you have a Haynes or Chiltons? I think they cover reading the codes in there (Emissions or Engine section I believe).

Yeah, checked it and it is well within' the range that it should be. I was thinking it might be an oil pump but wanted to see what others thought.

I got a chilton. I'll check that out and see what the code was. EDIT: Just checked the code and it was Code 32-EGR System Failure
So what could cause this code?

Thanks for replying. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
Anyone else?

General rule of thumb is 10psi per 1000 rpm

Hmm.. well, it hasn't seemed to cause any problems. Just gotta make sure that there is oil and that it is clean. Guess we'll see what happens and if it blows... time for a 5.0L. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
