Got a price for Spindle bearings today from the dealer - $341 (CDN) for the pair!!!! WHAT!!! Dealer says toyota changed the design from a Brass bushing to a Roller bearing and thrust washer. So either where do I find them cheaper? A LOT CHEAPER??? oR can I find the old style bushing? My truck originally came with ADD hubs, so that expains why their worn out, but I've got Manual hubs now so I can handle the reduced life of the bushing if they're available. I found this article http://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech/jimrockford_spindle/jimrockford.htm on replacing toyota spindle bearings. It looks like the spindle and the steering knuckle are one piece (I didn't know that), does the steering knuckle have to be removed from the truck, or can this be done on the truck. Any more advise? Well considering it looks like you have to use a press for the install. I would say yes they have to come off!!!! Not that hard to remove them!!!!!!

With locking hubs the old style brass bushings will work just dandy. Use a press, not a hammer - they distort easily.

Where can I find bushings? Dealer says the bearings have superseded the old bushings.

Not trying to redirect the subject, but I notice that groan with the temp. gets down into the teens. Only lasts a very short distance. Serious or just annoying? Thanks y'all...sorry for the off topic, but first time I'd heard anyone else mention this.

Annoying. The spindle is oscillating due to the grease being extremely stiff/missing. I suppose you could be galling the bronze but I doubt it.
Personally, I would defeat the ADD and use locking hubs to fix the problem.

Where can I find bushings? Dealer says the bearings have superseded the old bushings. Sorry, I've never gone down that road (see reply above). You could check the boneyard. What leads you to believe you need to replace them (I assume you've measured clearances against the FSM specs)?
