So any of you looking for good snow tires, I wanted to let you know the 33x9.50 BFG AT's are the best I've had. Took the kids sledding Sunday and the lower Cascades had a good 18" from the last storm. Big difference in bite and stability compared to prior wider tires that would float around on top (the wife & kids stay a lot quieter when they aren't so worried about careening off the side of a cliff). The extra clearance compared to my 31x10.50's didn't hurt either.

I liked my old 33x10.50 ATs in the snow:

I'll probably go back to them once I wear out the MTs I am now running.

I don't consider ANYTHING that says AT or MT on the sidewall a snow tire. Real winter tires are worth every penny. Nokian Hakkapellitas, Bridgestone Winter Duelers, or Toyo Open Country G-02s are among the best.

Ever driven a BFG AT or MT or MTR or IROK or REVO in the snow?

They are great snow tires. And... I'm not sure the Toyo's, Bridgestones or Nokian's come in a 35x12.5...

Well to each his own, but I don't care for duel compound tread that Bridgestone uses. After the new wears off, performance drops. The Canadian sites I checked rate the BFG AT higher overall than the Toyo and real close in snow performance. Now if you are looking for performance on ice, instead of deep snow then real studs kick butt on special compounds in my opinion. Besides if you do any offroad driving, then you need to look at sidewall construcion as well, and the Toyo or Bridgestone do not even come close to the BFG TA KO. You never know, there might a rock hidden in that snow somewhere

Some other guys were talking about siping in an earlier thread. Looks like this Bridgestone Winter Dueler would be an excellent winter road tire. I bet a mud tire would be better in the deep though. Available in 30 x 9.50, 31 x 10.50 and LT265/75-16 (like a 33 x 11.00). i think I'd like to try my hand at siping a pair of BFG AT's in 33x9.50 -- Matt

You would likely need a heated knife to sipe the ATs. That rubber is a lot tougher than the compound used on the MT. I think I tried my utility knife out on my ATs once and it did not want to do much.

Oh yeah and there's this studdable tire. Available from Les Schwab Tire. It was available in 33x9.50 last year. They changed their website so that you can't check out the specs any more. I'd be surprised if it has any extra beef in the sidewalls though.

hate to sound like a noob, but is that what the holes are for? My mudkings have holes like those along the edges of the tred as well.....didn't know why. Is that what they're for or are the the holes for studding any different?
