You'll get that tire stuffed a lot more with leverage out further on the axle, like when your tire is on a rock. Depending on your shock type and setup you may not need a swaybar either.

Started with the rear today. I had Indy4x set up my 5.38s and weld up the rear with 3/8s inch plate!!! Matt did a great job on that, I dont think ill be breaking those welds haha.. Anyways. I took the rear out to flip the spring perches and paint it. I ended up reusing the perches that were on there. They cut off very easily without being mangled, so it still looks some what factory. I found this little guy on the inside of the passenger side frame rail, right above the bump stop.. Ive got some 1/4 plate to take care of that, I am just waiting for my roommate to wake up so he doesnt shoot me when i start grinding the rust away hahaha.. Peace Joel

I'd check around that area very carefully and see how bad it is.Sometimes they go from the inside out like mine did , and that little thing could be whats showing so far froma much bigger problem.Once I get the body off the bad frame , I'll post lots of pics of it , just so you can see what happens from the inside out Also its a good idea to get some rust stop and apply it generously to that area.

This is not really a problem i was looking to deal with. I did not think my frame was really that bad.
I do plan on flatbedding this thing. So i might just have to do that sooner, and get rid of the entire rear of the frame.
The funny thing is, i used POR15 on the whole rear of the frame, from the cab back, a couple of years ago, and the frame was in good shape. Now it looks like its been sitting in the ocean for the last 2 years. POR sucks haha.
The front half, that i didnt POR15 is in better shape, but still is kinda rusty.
I plated that area of the frame today, i put a quarter inch plate 5 inches long and three inches tall over the crack. Think i should do the top and bottom of the frame too??
Peace
Joel

I wouldn't go crazy since sometimes all the heat from welding can actually weaken the metal. Just put a little diamond shaped piece over the affected areas to get the longest weld surface and avoid welds perpenducular with the frame. Make trapezoids, parrallelograms etc... Also the frame right there isn't nearly 1/4" I would just use 1/8". You want to match the current setting (and of course plate thickness) to the source metal so you don't burn through. I would just use 1/8, tack one edge, then use a hammer to tap the metal to follow the contours of the frame. you can also weld in 1" segments then heat and hammer the patch as you go to "stretch" the patch over the frame if it is curved.

Congrats on attaining mobility!!! If it wasnÆt so early in the morning, I would crack open a beer to toast the occasion!
(* using coffee instead *) So, do you think you might have it ready in time for a 4-wheeling trip in June ???
