Brake drag question #674889 12/08/05 12:26 AM

Today my left front brake started to make a bit of a squealing/dragging sound when not braking. I replaced the pads 70k back and thought they might be due, but when I popped the wheel this afternoon I saw that I still have approx. 1/4" of pad left. Last time I did pads I remember them being much thinner. I felt some resistance when turning the wheel by hand. It seems to me like more than just dust. Any thoughts?

lemme guess,
u haven't greased the wheel bearings since the last ice age?
should b ZERO resistance to spinning...
toys lull u into thinking they'll go forever without stuff like grease, etc.
but they won't actually

Wheel bearings were last greased ~20k back.

I think it is more of a sticking caliper problem. Which can be caused by lack of maintenance also, failure to flush your braking system at least every two years. Brake fluid absorbs water from the atmosphere, which in turn turns to a corrosive sludge, which screws things up in the system. The same is true for the clutch system. In high humidity areas requires it needs changed more often. I had one caliper that was so bad I never did get the one of the pistons out of it.
