engine for a 1995 kia sportage, sohc, f.i.4wd.5spd Or anyone know of an engine swap that works. It's easier to find engines for other rigs.

No it ain't. At least for the Sporty. No other engine besides the FE3-derived one that's in there is known to be compatible with the tranny. You'll have to swapt out tranny, t-case, etc. If you bother doing all that you ought to go for an SAS while you're at it... Sorry dude.
What's up with the engine? I'm sure Axeman could tell you what to do. I'm sure he'll see this post, so post what's going on with it and he'll point you in the right direction. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Have you checked the Ford Currier engine? It's made by Mazda and the Kia has a Mazda type engine. If it fits, it be nice to get a carburated one so you won't have to get the conputer as well.

The Mazda "B" series 4 bangers are underpowered plus are prone to head gasket failures. I know from experience.

I had a couple of B-2000. They never broke down. I did change the timing belt as soon as I got them, I do that with any used car I buy, so I never had any problems. They were really good gas though.

Mazda must have changed the engine over the years. Here is what I remember: 1983 Mazda B2000 pickup 2.0 liter SOHC hemi-head. CHAIN driven, no timing belt. 77 wimpy HP. I had it for 10 years. At 96K miles it blew a head gasket. Had it fixed and at around 106K miles it blew again. Sold it for parts.

I think I had an 87. It sat a bit low for my taste, but it was really good on gas. It was fast as well. But then, I think Kia, though slow, is fast enough for my taste, and it doesn't break down, cross my fingers. I've driven a Suzuki for many years and I really consider it slow. Heck, I think my wife's Camry is too fast and it only has a 2.2L engine. Hey, by the way, do you know what type/make/# shock you have in back of the Kia? If I remember right, you do have a lift on it. I need new rear shocks, but NAPA/O'Reily couldn't cross check my Monroes and they did not show them on the book or computer. I bought them in Mexico so maybe they never sold them in the US.

No sorry, the suspension is stock so the Gabriel's are OEM replacements.

my engine just died on my wife, the upper radiator hose blew up, to smithereens, and the engine died. i went and replaced the hose, filled it with antifreeze, and it would just crank, not even try to start, so we did a compression check on it, and the cylinders only have about 25 lbs. in them, and no matter how much I crank it, not even a sputter, any suggestions???
