Need a Spot

What should I torque my rear pinion nut to? Manual says 145, Roger Brown says 90, but shouldn't I be tourqing it a little at a time till I get the right bearing preload? I'm doing my pinion seal right now. Gears were installed professionally 1 year ago. The pinion nut was staked but just tightened, maybe 10 ftlbs.
What do you say?
