you could try backflushing your heater core. most people do that and a bunch of crud comes out. just take off both of the hoses connected to it and put a garden hose to one of them.
btw, you wouldnt be able to see if your blower resistor was bad by looking under the dash. you have to unscrew the one screw that connects it and see if any of the coil things are burned up. but if all speeds on your fan work then it should be good.

Follow that troubleshooting tree I posted for ya man!! If you've done all that other stuff, you might be up into the heat controls.

Make sure the valve on the firewall is working right and is not clogged. Replace the heater hoses they could be clogged. The heater in my 90 works well enough that I do not put my full doors on for winter snow runs!!!!!!:D

i have a toyota t-stat w/ the 1/4" hole in it.... 1/4" hole is way too big. Try about 1/16". Make sure your fan clutch isn't seized as well.

Had the same problem in my little 85' flatbed w the 22r. Over the winter a mouse got in the evap housing under the dash and made a nest . Everytime I hit the blower it smelt of rat pi** and about drove me insaner. Ended up purging the freon at a cooling shop so it was reclaimed then took the truck home and pulled the entire fan/ evap/ heater core out and cleaned and disinfected it with every chemical I could find . A mild amonia solution did the best on the odor and purple plus cleaned the dirt out . You wouldn't believe the dirt and dust and dog hair and lint in addition to the frikin rat nest that was impacted almost to a mat that had built up over 20 years and was preventing AIR Flow. After that it worked at least 5 times better .

Yeah a 1/4" hole is way too big. Where does your temp gauge needle sit at during normal operation?

Make sure the valve on the firewall is working right and is not clogged. That's where I'd look first. I ended up replacing my '88 valve with one from a newer model truck that mounts a little bit differently. The newer style valve seemed to look much cleaner in design and operation to me. It took some very slight tweaking to get her in place, but it will work and can be done. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
