'90 Trooper ...Just wondering if anyone knew of anything that would cause both my temp gauge and fuel gauge to stop working at the same time?? My oil pressure gauge has never stopped working, but every once in a while the other two will just quit. They might be off for an hour, or a day, and then they just start working again. There has to be something(ground somewhere maybe?) that is shared/common between the two. I have not had the time to take the guages out yet to check them, just thought someone might have had this happen and found the "fix" so I would know what to look for.

Since both went out at the same time, I'd guess a fuse blew. Now as to why the fuse blew, that's a whole 'nother question...

No it's not a fuse. Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my description of the problem. The gauges go off for a while(could be an hour, could be a day) and then, just out of the blue, they start working again....all on their own. Unless someone stuck in some self healing fuses, it cannot be a fuse problem. Has almost got to be a bad ground or bad wire connection. But where???
I guess it could be a loose fuse, but I doubt it.

On my Amigo, the stock fuel pump wiring comes in under the passenger seat and the stock temp gauge wiring comes in behind the glove box -- these are grounded separately in each subharness (one at the rear crossmember, which is a rust magnet, and the other by the passenger-side hood hinge).

Not sure why you'd lose fuel and temp but not oil, either from signal or from instrument panel power.

Check the connectors behind the gauges, perhaps?

I have a feeling this is going to be a tricky one to figure out.

your not alone. 2 of the 4 1st gen troopers i've owned so far did exactly the same thing. i never go too far with them so it never bothered me, but if i drove it any distance it would be nice if they worked right. my guess was also a ground, or possibly a loose power wire?????? someone will chime in on this one i'm sure. good luck with it.

No, you were...I just didn't read it carefully.

It sounds to me like the 2 power wires connect to the same place and the connection has corroded and occasionally connects after a bump then loses connection later.

Isuzu used to use a single voltage regulator for the temp and fuel gauge on Chevy LUVs. They probably continued the trend, so the power for both would come from the same source. In the LUV the regulator was integrated into the gauge panel, not sure where it is in the troop and my shop manual is not handy.

Point is, it makes sense to me that both would get power from gauge reading from the same source, so a single loose wire could take them both out.
