I drive a 99 SR5 4x4 and live in San Jose. I'd like to get a valve body upgrade and also rebuild my tranny. I frequently tow a trailer these days for my business and also have a TRD S/C running 5psi of boost (have had it running for 4 years). I would like to up my boost to 9-10 psi eventually.
Gadget referred me to IPT, Import Performance Transmission. Looks like they have a rebuild kit for $600, and $500 for the valve body upgrade service. I'm estimating that shipping the valve body, tranny fluid, and other misc parts will run another $400. How much will labor cost for a local shop to do the rebuild? I'm prepared to spend another $1500 on labor as long as it ensures that my tranny will be bulletproof against double the boost I'm currently running.
The hardest part seems to be finding a reliable local shop. Anyone know of any shops in the Bay Area? Even southern CA might be an option. Would you trust your truck with someone like AAMCO? Their corny commercials (Double A, *beep beep*, M-C-O) make me weary. Thanks for any help on finding a shop or any other tips you can give me on the transmission work.
BTW, I'm already running a large tranny cooler. Why don't you give Marlin a call.... link
