I built this with some scrap 1/2" plywood and $4 worth of carpet from the remnant pile at the hardware store. Even have a cupholder now!

That particular one is in my 85 Xtra cab and has no compartments other than a divider behind the back of the VHF radio and the rest of the box. The lid has foam padding under the carpet and is hinged so that it opens toward the passenger seat. Turned out so slick that I've built two others for people that liked it much better than the stock console.

I should also add that the 4Runner consoles with the rear heater are considerably different than the pickups.

I'll be switching over to buckets in my standard cab truck shortly and would be interested in the console if he isn't.

I'll let you know if 87Toy4x4 is not interested.

oh and missouri man, shouldn't you be worrying about a lot of other important things when rolling over rather than just your center console opening?

I have tools in there also...
I try to keep the heavy stuff inside the cab in there.

I was sitting traffic in my 02 tacoma, wondering what I as going to use for a center console in my 84 4runner. the soloution was under my right elbow. a trip to the scrapyard got me a center console, with shift bezel and boot, for $50. the screw holes for the shift bezel and the front two screws of the console line up perfectly with the stock brackets on teh 84 floor pan, and I used 2 self tappers for the back two screws in the arm rest. the best part is that I got brand new grey '02 shift knobs for the shift lever and trasnfer case from the stealer. not only do they screw right on, but the shift patterns are correct!

When I baught my truck the PO left a Walmart special center consol. Thing is its grey and matches the interior pretty close. I think I'm gonna keep it.

I put in a locking Tuffy console designed for a Samurai. Works pretty well, even with a crawler. Nicely padded. Grey is a little lighter than stock interior, but no complaints from this one.
