LOVE your console Toy Story! Gonna have to build one when I get back. I have the stock one in my truck. Hinge is shot and no cup holder is killin me, don't know how many times I've turned a corner and dumped a Big Gulp onto the floor, although Jack in the Box lids do impress me, never had one pop off to spill the contents of the drink all over the floor! Oh, and if anybody cares where their tax dollars are going, when a aircraft carrier is doing 30 knots and they throw the rudders over 30 degrees, they need to remember to secure the china in the Captains cabin...yeah, it went crashing all over the deck, heard it in my office which is right next door.

Roll Me Over
Here is some pics of two that I have recently built. The first one was for an '87 X-cab, it has to storage bins and dual cup holders.

This was the first one I built for a Stand. cab, it also has 2 storage bins a little smaller than the x-cab.

Fabrication is the name of the wheeling game. Make some brackets to screw/pop rivet to the floor and screw the console to!!!

Personally, I'd go the easier route....

Bring a drill w/ a spot weld cutting bit to the yard and cut the OE brackets off of the donor truck. Should take all of 10 minutes to get them out in good working condition. Then spot weld or body panel adhesive will work great for keeping them put.

There are a total of three brackets, and IIRC 10 spot welds.

After seeing all these consoles, I decided to replace mine. On my stock one the hinge was broken and there are no cupholders which bugged me to no end.

The original owner had the cushion on top of the console made, (still have the receipt inthe glove box), and it made the height good for my arm, so decided to make my new console the same height.

Started out with 1/2 inch plywood and decided to use wood screws to put it together since I had em left over from building my fence. Just had to make sure and pre-drill the holes so I wouldn't split the wood.

I didn't have a hole saw big enough for the cupholders, so I'll still need to re-do that part, and I had some left over carpet from when the house was built, not too fond of it, but it'll do for now. What's that members line on their posts, "Wheelin on the Cheap".

Was able to use the stock mounting holes, just had to find some longer screws.

And I still have to get a hinge for the lid. Overall, I'm quite happy with it, height is good for the arm, lots of storage, and once I get the cupholders cut to the right size, I'll be golden! Not too happy with the carpet on the cupholder area, may find something different for there, but a vast improvement over the original I think!

Thanks for the inspiration! I esp like Toy Story's radio mount.

Buck, how did you fasten on the carpet? Just stapled?

I started out just stapling it, but decided that wouldn't be good enough so I used a hot glue gun. I like his radio mount as well, thinkin I'll possibly put mine there also.

Thanks ya'll and that looks great Buck! The VHF radio has an oval shape to it instead of rectangular like a normal DIN stereo or CB and I just couldn't get it to look good in the dash. I used a combination of staples and 3M Super 90 spray adhesive to attach the carpet.

One question though Buck... How are you going to cut those cupholder holes bigger with out a pilot hole?

hehe, I was thinking just that on the way from from picking up a bigger hole saw! If it comes down to it I'll just cut a new piece to put the holes into. Everything is screwed together, so easy to take apart.

Shoot, I was just going to mock one up with cardboard and take the fab from there, m'self. Seems to me it would make it easier to check the xfer shifter position, as long as you keep your point of reference with the floorpan brackets. One of my plans was also to put a couple of the aux light switches on it, and spot to mount a fire extinguisher bracket (no roll bars).
