Need a Spot
Ok new to this site, but this weekend I went out coyote hunting in the desert with my 2002 Tacoma and ran into a fence that wasn't posted. Flying down a dirt road a 40mph and all of a sudden see bob wire going across the road. Well I broke some of it when I hit it but now that my truck is all scratched up its time to turn it into a wheeling machine.

I don't get too crazy off road, but I want to put a lift on my truck, dump some money into the suspension and get rid of the stock bumpers and put on something that will protect the lights and body a little.

My question to you guys is what lift did you go with and if you could do it again what would you do different? I have been reading about the many lift options so I know a little. Any bumper recomendations would be awesome. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

So I was thinking of going with a Toytec lift where a spacer is added to the spring. Does this cause problems with the cv joints in the front end? I would add a leaf on the back instead of using a block.

I like this site and all but theres some others you may want to search:

www.tacomaterritory.com
www.pirate4x4.com

Me, my trucks stock w/31" tires...fine for me.

CV joints / boots like to be less than 2 1/2", but a lot of folks run upto 3" without too many issues.

Not to flame you, but from the description of your recent outing, it sounds like some high performance coilovers might be better suited to your style of offroading. Take a look at these:

I was looking at my cv boots and one is already leaking grease. Must have been from running over some sage brush. I tried to take it easy because I have done this to other toyotas I have owned. Those things are just problematic. I think I'm going to sell it and buy a Jeep with a solid front axle.

Hmmm, couldn't have been from running over barbed wire <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

no all the barb wire went over the top of the truck. This is the second cv boot I have seen fail and the only thing I can think of that would have caused it is bushes. So watch out for those darn bushes.
