Ok im sure most of you have seen the gen 1 non running monty on ebay. and Im sure some of you are bidding on it. It says it turns over but doesn't crank. This makes me think about my 90 that had ecu issues and would turn but not crank. Im guessing its either the dizzy or the ecu. Can anyone else think of a major reason it would turn but not crank? I was figuring since I got a running totaled monty I can use the ecu and dizzy on the new non running one. Is there any inconpatibility issues between 90 and 91 I need to be aware of? Worst case can I do engine swap, t-case or tranny from one to the other no problem? Any insight would be very helpful. Im hoping to get this provided the price doesn't go up too much more. Help me out guys.

I looked at it when I was shopping. I'll help you with any swap out stuff for a few parts off your junker, mostly little stuff like heater buttons. You should have at most minor swap out compatibility problems between a 90 and 91. 88 and 89 were the oddballs. If the motor turns over and develps oil pressure when cranked, we can get it running with your donor parts. I have a shop off exit 20, too, since it's so stinkin' cold out.

No way Im paying 1k for a non running monty. I only paid 2k for my great cond monty. If anyone in the area has a 90, 91 body etc for sell let me know.

My old monty is completely operational, bent frame, one bent motor mount and destroyed body, I wish I could get it structuraly sound but..... Sooner or later I will find a replacement. Sorry guys no spare parts yet.

BTW Im relocated to alpharetta ga.

I found mine on traderonline.com (AutoTrader) for $1075, running real good and in terrific shape. I searched on craigslist, ebay, and traderonline for about 10days before I found it. Bought a really nice 91 for my daughter for $1200 from a junkyard in Commerce. I'd try car-part.com and see if they have a mechanically dead one on the yard they'd sell whole, or what they have left if it's enough to get yours fixed.

"It says it turns over but doesn't crank. This makes me think about my 90 that had ecu issues and would turn but not crank."

Your statement is confusing isn't turning over and cranking the same thing? Thinkin: turns over and not runs to be a problem, or cranks and doesn't run but haven't heard turns over but doesn't crank. I can try and help is it V6 or 4 cylinder? I think most costly repair would be timing belt if its a V6. Take dizzy cap off and crank, rotor no turny TROUBLE. Don't get mad but I paid $100 CAD for my 87 2dr Raider. It was easy to figure out what was wrong with it. Head in back seat and hole in #2 piston with part of valve sticking out . Hope this helps and you have good luck in auction MIKEY

Crank = turns when trying to start.
Turns over = Actually starts when/after cranking.

Therefore, it's hard to see where it will turn over, but not crank. Unless it's a stick and it's getting bump-started...

My raider came by complete with blown headgasket for 150. 60 dollar gasket kit and couple hours of labor and voila! Runs good enough, put about 2000 miles on it so far. Now if I could just get my hands on a carb that works right. . .

Body Damage is Cool
My interpretation of that would be:
Cranks-engine turns with the starter.
Turns over-engine is able to be turned with a wrench on the crankshaft bolt, but not necessarily with the starter.
Neither of these would indicate that the engine actually runs.
