Gentlemen,
Is there an easier way to rotate to TDC than removing the radiator to get a socket on the crankshaft pulley nut?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
What vehicle and year are you talking about?
I've never had to remove a radiator to turn a crank.
Different combinations of socket extensions have
always worked for me.

Yup. Put a breaker bar with a 2-3" extension on it and rotate away. You probaby can do it from above, but you should be able to get to it from below too.

Good Luck,
Michael

of course, with the plugs out, you can turn it by hand...

Gentlemen,
I have about a half inch of space between fan shroud/fan and pulley, couldn't get a tool into the space. I can't even get my hand onto the nut. Rocket scientist that I am, I got a wrench on another pulley and let the fan belt do the work for me. I do appreciate the assistance. I've learned a great deal, saved a great deal of headache/banged knuckles and busted parts from you guys, and I am most grateful.

Just curious, what are you doing that you
need the engine at TDC?

Any service that requires the crank to be at TDC, with
the exception of pulling and reinstalling the distributor is
going to require the fan shroud and fan be off anyways.

There's either 4 nuts or 3 bolts and a nut that holds the fan on. Pull the fan off along with the shroud and you'll have a nice wide open area to turn the engine over with
a breaker bar and a socket.

You can also go in from the bottom side with a short handled
socket wrench.

Oh yeah, forgot about that one! [Linked Image]

But, no matter. It's really not that big of a deal
to remove the fan? It takes 5 minutes to remove it.
You don't really even have to remove the shroud to
remove the fan.

Sometimes you'll try to spend 2hrs trying to figure out
a way to keep from doing 5 minutes worth of extra work.
I know I do that sometimes...
