Hmmm, my electric choke always worked just fine. Although it needed ajustment on a regular basis. I ajusted it to a happy medium before I sold it. BTW that Carter elect fuel pump I put on worked real good. Make sure you get a good electric though, only Danwheeler has any good luck w/ cheap pumps. I went through 4 Posi flo pumps (1yr warr) under warranty before I got the bit more expensive Carter. (Lifetime Warranty)

Yeah, there's probably a big difference in winter weather between Northern Illinois and Alabama .

I also used a Carter and was pretty happy with it.

Thanks for the tips, I got it runnin, then went to change the plugs. #3 looked like it had been sitting in oil. Still wet. Sure enough, went around the block and lost a quart of oil so Carb wasnt my only problem.

not sure if thats the right picture - that timing cover looks funny. It says SOHC... i'm having a brainfart here but I thought our engines were SOHC. is that a Weber air intake plenum on the right?

I dunno, I've never heard of that company before. The aftermarket is loaded with crap parts .

I haven't heard of it either. That is just a representitive pic. If you scroll to the bottom he is selling kits for a bunch of motors. The price says stay away, a good set of pistons alone cost that much (actually a bit more). The owner of my Raider before me put junk like that in mine and #3 piston broke less than 30mi later. I rebuilt w/ Weisco and Clevite and it has about 40mi on that build, you can check w/ Mississippi Blue to see how it's running.

Still got yo get it towed home. Looks bad.

I knew that i had some blowby for awhile. (smoke at statup, when AC was on and air cleaner filthy) I dont understand how it went south so fast. Still idles great but looks like a small forest fire behind me.

I can get a rebuilt long block for $1200 locally. Gonna go ahead and setup Weber air cleaner and get the headers installed while I am at it.

Humor me and do a compression check before you condemn the motor. If the compression is normal on 1,2,and 4 and high on 3 then the rings and valves are good. That will also mean you have a completely gone valve seal on the #3 intake valve. If the compression is low on three then it is piston/ring problems and time for a rebuild.

funny you should ask. I went last weekend and went to start it up to move it. I heard a loud pop and no crank. I found the #3 spark plug still on the wire on the side of bay. I must have not screwed it in and it blew it out, so there is compression on the #3.
