later model trucks used gasket goo exclusively on the oil pan gasket.

permatex gray is a direct replacement for black FIPG, it even lists the part number on the box the tube comes in. i use it exclusively on everything. stay away from the blue crud.

Another vote for gasketless Toyota-brand FIPG. Love the stuff. Orange for the driveline, black for anything upstream from combustion including oil pans. Nary a drip. My oilpan required no tapping to flatten.

You fellers really need to befriend your local parts guy. He has, on occasion, GIVEN me a tube here and there. I also get the TLCA club discount. Of course, he knows if I buy parts I come to him, but still... a long way from qualifying as a 'stealership'.

If you cut the valve cover gasket in a cross section, it's shaped like an o; it's not a flat gasket. Eyeball one when you get the chance.
