Getting the Wheeling Fever
Here is a dooby for all of you.

My 89 22RE(Calif.) is losing coolant and oil!
First off there appears to be no coolant in the oil and no obvious coolant leaks, however I can smell coolant after driving it. I go through about a quart of oil after every 500-750 miles(20W50) My exhaust is not unusally oily in fact it appears dry. I do have a leak in the EGR system code 71 I think. Gas mileage is crappy too, 14 max. The top end was recently rebuilt as well as new rings. I need help.

what kind of headgasket was the head replaced with? there are alot of crappy ones that could easily fail after short mileage again. if it were me, id just yank the motor, and get an EB rebuild kit for 300 bux to make it new again. check the head out and see if it is up to spec. if it was rebuilt its probably fine. you could spend 500 bux and a weekend, and in return get 100000 miles from it.

87 4runner 33" bfg mt's no lift. dubbed the marine by my frinds. dead as of august 14 2005. 84 ex cab p/u 33"a/t, 3" suspension+3"bodylift, thorley header and 2.25xhaust, downey midrange cam+rocker set, very milled head! NO RUST!

pull the head , take it to a machine shop for inspection and milling as needed.
check the block for warpage as well.
while the head is off inspect the timing chain, front/real seals and the pan gasket (if you used one) for leaks. pan should be sealed with :
FPIG (toyota)
pematex ultra grey
threebond 1104 (also marketed under the yamaha, honda ,etc name and they are cheaper) - used in motorcycle apps to seal non gasket surfaces (case halves usually). these are a bit thinner (more fluid-like) than ultra gray, be aware of this .
look @ the spark plugs , if one appears exceptionally clean, probably that one is leaking coolant ,and burning it.
most will tell you to get a EB or OEM gasket. i have used felpro gaskets with no problems.
