Well IÆm not running my new (92) amigo 2.6 around town yet. Cuz the 2.6 is brand spanking new. IÆve just been driving it around the neighborhood.

But IÆm going to try to keep track of fuel consumption after this initial tank. So well see what a brand new 2wd 2.6 AmigoÆs gas consumption is like is a week or two.

I get consistently 16-18, and I rev it pretty good. I dream of 20 though. 90 model with K&N and 31's

I used to get high teens on a 150k+ motor and then made it into the low 20's with a fresh rebuild. best tank I recall was close to 25 - lots of downhill on I-70 dropping into Denver.

In my old 86 2.3 I drove it like a grandma (exhaust leaks made it almost unbearable to rev past 3k) so I got in the mid 20's in the city and low-mid 20's on the highway. but the quart of oil it would drink every 50-75 miles more than made up for the excellent fuel economy

In my 88 2.6, I got about 15 on the highway to charlotte last weekend. I had a leaky injector and a full load (gear and a set of 5 tires&wheels in the back).

A few months back, I tried running a little acetone in my tank (an once per 10 gallons) and it seemed to make a small increase in mileage.

Ahh, good stuff. I will have to post as I just made a trip from my town of Braidwood, IL to Valley Head, AL. Roughly 620 miles each way. I had just greased my wheel bearings before leaving, I averaged 20mpg the way there. I'll say that it was a little more than 20, but that's a nice round number. It was very windy and not in the right direction. Eitherway, on the way home on the first tank I made about the same, on the second however I got a bit of cheap gas and was back down to around 15-17. But, all in all I saved a tank of gas which amounts to about $50.00 on that trip. Well worth the wheel bearing grease smile. I used to average 17 on the highway/expressway and about 15 in town. I've got an Automatic 4x4 2.6L 1989 Trooper for reference. Just hit 167,000 miles, headgasket was replaced at 155,000 if I recall. Still need to adjust the valves though smile.
