I used the Harbor Freight scissor type tranny jack to remove the tranny and transfer case on my '83 as one unit. That particular jack had just enough reach to get the job done and I have a 3" suspension lift and 33" tires. I borrowed the jack from a friend, not sure if I would purchase this particular type of jack or not. I've never used the adapter on a floor jack so I have no comparison.

I had plenty of lift on the floor jack I used with the adapter to reach mine, maybe 4" suspension + 2" drivetrain lift on 33s. Had to jack up the side of the truck to get clearance for the t-cases sitting atop the jack+adapter to clear. Would have been easier to drop the t-cases to the ground and slide them out if I had some assistance, but it worked OK lifting the side of the truck up.

Well I found this one yesterday for only $32, but I had to also buy a new floor jack to fit it for $69: http://community.webshots.com/photo/169460885/531098980hiNCcRIt won't have any problem going high enough but this is as low as it goes: http://community.webshots.com/photo/531098448/531098448GHOKVR
