Need a Spot

I have a 88 fuel inject 22re that is overheating. When checking it out, the top radiator hose was sucked in and water was in the overflow. Changed the termostat and now its get up to about 3/4 of gauge and then drops to normal. This will happen once or several times while running it. any ideas?
