Need a Spot
I have a 88 fuel inject 22re that is overheating. When checking it out, the top radiator hose was sucked in and water was in the overflow. Changed the termostat and now its get up to about 3/4 of gauge and then drops to normal. This will happen once or several times while running it. any ideas?

real quick, what kind of a thermostat did you put in there? If it's anything other then OEM, it's gonna spike to 3/4 hot then be fine from there on out. Scaret me at first lol, put an OEM one in there (was cheaper then Napa) and now its perfect!

Yep, sounds like the classic 22RE Temperature Overshoot problem. Live with it or put in the 2-valve t-stat that Toyota designed to fix it.

Or drill a small hole in the thermostat. 1/8" or so will do just fine.
