Anyone with a Rancho steering stabilizer as stock replacement? #681186 12/31/05 03:34 AM

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I had the relay rod done last week by Toyota. Lot's has been written about it. Now my steering dampener leaks. No sign of force from the reinstallation. OK, it's about 13 years old but I find it amazing that it now breaks after the @#$% dealer was at it. Normally I do all my work myself.
Since this truck sits idle all winter and is only used when pulling a trailer, I decided to go with a Rancho replacement instead of the $ 170.- from the dealer. Rancho is supposed to be a direct replacement.
Does anyone has one installed?

It's been awhile, but yes. Not much to it. Steering felt a little heavier afterwards, IIRC, as the stock one didn't put up much resistance.

Thank you for your post, did it fit into the org. brackets and taper end on the rod side? Or was it a U bolt job? Hope not
I ordered it but haven't seen it yet. I'll do the swap tomorrow if it comes in.

I have a rancho setup but the one i have is not a direct factory replacement. There was not much to it just required installation of a bracket and some other hardware to accept the new stabilizer. I am happy with its performance though and i run 35" mud terrains

It does have the u-bolts, but mine have not loosened up in the two years since I've installed it. It also comes with a bracket that mounts it to the idler arm if I remember correctly. As previously mentioned, you'll notice the steering to be a bit heavier. But after a couple weeks, it'll be like normal again. Just be sure once you install it to have it centered so you get equal movement when steering from side to side. It took me a couple tries, but only 5 minutes worth.

From what you guys write, it sounds like a good solution even though it's U bolts.
I'll follow up when it's installed. Thank you for your quick replies.

It sounds like you already ordered one, but for everyone's future reference the Pro Comp es2000 stabilizer is a direct bolt-in and I did not notice any difference in steering afterwards

Yeah, the u-bolts work fine. I tore the stabilizer in two this past summer, and the u-bolt end was all that remained attached.

Well... if I don't like what I see then it goes back. Also, if the skid plate won't fit in front I won't take it either.

The stock skid plate will fit back in place just fine, mine did. I can't speak for any aftermarket skid plates though.
