All better - today was the first day I've had to get back to it..... tore it down and as I suspected, I had installed the H-L clutch sleeve backward. It shifts like butter now. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I sure hate to make an assembly error like that, but I can't say the FSM is much help... there's a mechanical drawing, but it looks like Greek to me compared to the actual part. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

If anyone has a similar problem and sees this post, the edge bevel on both clutch sleeves should point in the same direction.

Also installed a new throttle cable and O/D solenoid valve w/harness on the fresh transmission. The next day I get I'll install the tranny and t-case.

The day was a pleasure as Bob (87 Montero) stopped by on his way to pick up a spare truck. We had a nice visit and it provided a nice break from wrenching.
