Blown head gasket SHOULDN'T make much difference- maybe a couple of mpg.

This makes me wonder how the rest of your electronics are doing- something else might be up.

If it tastes sweet, it's coolant. Don't swallow, though! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I had a head gasket so shot that water would drip out of the driver's side crossover pipe when you pressurized the rad. Amazingly, the head wasn't warped, so a new gasket later, off we went.

Well, actually, it had to rin for a few minutes to blow the coolant out of the muffler, an event that had me sweating bullets thinking that the new gasket hadn't sealed....
