Kevin,

I doubt I've got the acceleration of that turbo!
I needed the displacement for trailer hauling at lower rpm's.

You are correct Don.

2 HEI distributors.

1 small one with remote mounted coil
and 1 large one with the coil built into the cap.

I have a large one in my chevelle, and a small one in the raider. both work fine.

As far as simplicity. TBI man. I just HATE carbs is all.

hahah "seems like alot of work for 190 hp"

You're missing the point of the swap man. there are TONS of other advantages to it than JUST doubling the HP

Question, when you smog the truck do you smog as a Chevy or a Mitsu?

The local rules here in Vancouver (Canada) are that the vehicle is tested to the chassis year requirements.
Since the 4.3 produced 1/10 the pollutants of the 2.6, it was an easy pass.
If tested to the engine year, it would have passed too.
An engine/exhaust has to be pretty suspect here to fail.

I took mine through the test (dyno'd, 5 gasses) right after it was running, just to see if I was due for a "surprise" next year, and it did just fine. The tech's updated the records to show the new engine size, and were curious about the swap, but otherwise nothing caused any problems.

In CA the engine must be the same model year or newer and meet the same or tighter specifications. So if the Engine is a 98 model year, you have to meet those specs.

Areas with air quaility problems get a dyno test, not so bad areas a standard sniffer test and if you out in the boonies you only get smogged when you buy and sell.

Gee wiz talk about being torn on which way to go on a re-power project I'm looking at the diesel route and the 4.3
But diesels donor trucks are hard to come by, but Chevy/GMC are a dime a dozen. Plus parts are a whole lot easier to get. So if I were to poll everyone my bet would go the 4.3 route.

The only free ride is supercharging by an exhaust driven system of a belt driven pump. You get your power and at whatever RPM you want it at. Kevin

Kevin: What is an exhaust driven system of a belt driven pump?

It's a new hybrid turbo/supercharger. The supercharger pump is belt driven. The "exhaust" from the belt-driven supercharger then spins the turbine in a more-traditional turbocharger.

What Kevin's talking about "free" is that, with careful sizing of the belt pulley ratios and the "exhaust" wheel on the turbine, the system actually generates more energy than it consumes.

Kinda like cold fusion.

I missed by one letter when typing... Basicly some form of supercharging ( forced induction) is a good way to get signifigantly more power out of a given sized engine without having to increase the RPM.

Ok, I should have seen that. The reason i asked is that someone i was talking to at an automotive show claimed that Nissan was experimenting with a combination positive displacement/tubocharger system. As this did not make a whole lot of sense to me,i have been looking for information,to see if it actually exists and how it functions.

Cold fusion will never work in a hot engine. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
