From a design standpoint... This is why the paint is untouhced by the outer lip.

That lip is only used so you get the belt on right, a multi V groove belt does not need a guide once its alligned and tensioned.

I think if you look carfully you will find that non of the "V's" the belt runs in are dammaged, just the outer edge.
