I like reusing these old threads. i will be trying to tackle this job next weekend. Does the truck need to be sitting level to get the support under the Tcase? i have it on ramp stands right now to unbolt all the skid plates and look at the job at hand. I can easily put it on flat ground to do the job, but that extra 10" is nice.
Is it just a matter of supporting the tcase while dropping the crossmember or do you need to slightly lift up on the tcase to take the load off to drop the crossmember? If so how much do you jack up on it?
Why does a simple droping of an oil pan or tranny pan be so much work? (retorical question)
I look through service manual and they are not very informative with a tranny service. I know there is a screen and gaskets. those I will replace along with the tranny pan gasket, but is there an actual filter in this assembaly? Or is the screen concider the filter?

I've only done this on a GEN 2.5, which I believe has a different mount setup than yours so I won't comment on that part.
I did have my front wheels on ramps the whole time with no issues.
I have to say in the end I regret going through the trouble of dropping the pan and replacing the filter. My fluid was PITCH BLACK and filthy looking before I changed it. I thought the filter would be clogged, but when I got there both the pan and filter were exceptionally clean. Others will disagree, but my recommendation is to use the drain plug and then the disconnected cooler line flush method, and then get on with your life.

The reason is more than just a tranny service but I have a tranny leak all around my pan so I need to replace the gasket anyways. Thanks

Recon, I did this job on my 89 when I first bought it a few years ago. It turned out to be in vain anyway since I ended up swapping out the entire tranny later on. But anyways, From what I can remember it was a PITA just becuse there were quite a few things to move out of the way in order to remove the pan, Like the skid plate that protects the linkage. I think the linkage had to be partially removed and Maybe a cross member...If I remember right I used a 2x4 or some other piece of wood jammed between the frme rails to support the trans while doing the job. I was on an inclined driveway with the front pointing upwards. I dont remember it requiring anything particularly special to do the job, It just took a little time and made a mess.

For me it was skid plate removal and cross member removal to get to rear pan bolts, no linkage removal. "Filter" is just a screen that can be cleaned and put back; I don't think it even has a gasket but Mitsu parts guy should be able to look it up. I can't remember if I supported the tranny but can't hurt, and angled on jack stands should be OK.

... but Mitsu parts guy should be able to look it up... So can anyone else on this forum (using a Windows PC). Simply download the Mitsubishi ASA program from mitsubishilinks.com and use your VIN or one of the VIN's in the VIN repository post. I should add that if you're buying this from a local dealer, just go ahead and have them do it for you. That way if any mistake is made when looking up the part number being ordered, it will fall squarely on their shoulders.

Ok I over estimated the difficulty of the cross-member and tranny mount. They came off rather easily. However, HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU GET THE PAN OFF!!!!!! Who in the world design that. They should be taken out back to woodshed have his hid wiped. I can get the top mount with mild difficulty, but I can not get the 2nd one at all. The FSM is no help. I read something the dipstick is 2 piece and it is bolted into the pan. I can not get enough play in the pan to get my hand to see if it does have a bolt. There has to be an easier way or something. I mean the japs did a pretty good job with how the rest of the stuff is put together. Surely they did not fubar this.

I like reusing these old threads. Actually you should make your own thread and if you want link it to this post. Thats the way most on here do it. Sort of an unspoken method most all follow.

The dipstick is a 2-part piece with an o-ring seal. The lower half will come out with the pan. I'm not sure you have to remove the upper part - maybe so (it's not fun to do) - maybe you can pull the pan and separate the dipstick halves without unbolting the top half - it's worth a try. I did not have to remove the upper half, but I did loosen the mount for it.

Mine has 2 mounts. One on the header heat shield and the other looks like it is attached to one the bolts that connects the transmission to the engine. I am literly stuck and can not get any further. Does anyone have any pics or something to help.
