I recently acquired a very clean bodied 1987 Raider...I am happy to have found this site with all it's info and interesting community...I was wondering if anyone out there has any specs on valve adjustment?...I am replacing the valve jet head with a non-valve jet head which has mechanical valve adjustments...Any suggestions on what the valve clearance specs should be?......<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Intake .006 and exhaust .010, engine warmed up to normal op temp. Set it up that way on assembly, and reset it after first start up. To set them with head on the engine (and to do it off is wasted, probably), set the crank pulley to #1 tdc, and set the 4 valves on the cam base circle (the ones that are completely closed). Then turn the motor one complete revolution to tdc again, and set the other 4 valves. Tighten the adjustment screw until you just begin to feel drag on the feeler gauge as you slide the gauge in the clearance. The bent tip feeler (a.k.a tappet) gauges are nice for this.

Thanks for specs and the refresher course in valve adjustment....I was very foggy on the details....I haven't adjusted rockers since my first car, a 1977 Toyota Pickup, bought it new for $3500 in 1977....I was thinking of going with the carter electric fuel pump and leaving the mech pump off.....Any suggestions on availability of a cover plate for the hole?...

A Starion has a tank mounted pump and a block off plate for the head hole. Any model, 84-89.
