Interesting that they still keep the w/s frame pads and strap bracket on this thing with out the hinges... and I would have to agree, this looks more and more like a socker kid mom's lawn toy. I didn't really read this entire thread or everything about the 07 Wrangler... but did hear someone say they hadn't ever seen a YJ or TJ with the W/S down. Welp, here are some pictures of mine. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of folks around that old town to take pictures of me in it, so you'll have to see the ones that I could get out of the Jeep to take them myself. They YJ has the tamper-proof torx bolts on the bars up by the "sport bar" that if you take a 5/16" punch and a hammer and a pair of needlenosed pliars out with the top off, you can render these bolts normal torx bolts, the front side ones that go into the w/s frame are tricky, even and steady pressure or their heads will break off, replace them as soon as you get them out.... Anyway, after takeing them off, the Jeeps come with these little straps to hold them down just inside the door-jam where there are little brackets for the straps to go through.... How many folks actually care enough to find these things? At least 1, my daughter pointed out where these things were one day when I had the carpet out for it's yearly bath. I think she was 7 at the time.... So, hope the image thing works today... wasn't earlier... here are some snazzy country-side pics of my Jeep with the top and W/S down. One thing that I have researched is that you have to have two usable & fixed mirrors and wear "driving" glasses/goggles when you travel on the road. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.geocities.com/ncbba2358/images/DSC07336a.jpg) Sorry about this last one, I can't seem to get it resized down to a reasonable size..... ![[Linked Image]](http://www.geocities.com/ncbba2358/images/DSC07338a.jpg)

Don't see too many of those things in Mississippi, do ya!?!? They are rocket launchers... actually, fishing rod holders for down on the beach, Atlantic Coastal states have more than the Gulf states.... Keep them 12 footers from getting tangled up, and it helps when ya get a really big fish on and need the Jeep to help pull them in! I'm pretty sure that you were talking about that. There are orange things on there too, they are for the tow bar setup.... Clear things up a bit? Here's an idea of how it works,,, will be happy to string up some rods in the day time for more recent... this was about 1.5 years ago, aren't those tires "cute"? ![[Linked Image]](http://www.geocities.com/ncbba2358/images/DSC06721a.jpg)

These I made, my dad always had them on his truck, umm, they sell fancy ones with cooler racks and stuff for those die-hard surf fishers, but I can't see paying more than $30 for something that I'd have to take off to fit in a parking space....
how'd we get on this? 15 year old Jeep compared to next years... mmmm.... Some things shouldn't change, eh?

Jeepete, I see you're right! Beach buggy was obviously talking about his poles.

The 07 kinda makes me sad in a sense. I know this sounds kinda childish but why loose the i-6 its been there for a few years. Is the v-6 they're putting in really all that much better for what the 10% of people will use it for. The fenders look cheap and childish. And is it just me or is the front bumper plastic. How are we supposed to plow into trees now. I guess its just where its heading. Who knows it may be the same thing people were saying about the Yj when they came out. Ill pray for the best in the newest "unwanted" child in the jeep community.

The decision to discontinue the I6 was made due to the cost of retooling to make an engine that is only used in a few models. The retooling was necessary due to age of tools. The new V6 will be used in lots of DC models and (unless it's a total disaster) will be around for a long time. It's all about trying to stay in the black! I agree it's sad, I always liked AMC, the longevity of the 232/258/242 I6 as well as the XJ and YJ models is a tribute to their design departments. It's the end of an era for sure.
