I just pulled a 3rd from a burned out 90-95 ish toyota 22re 4x4 extended cab. It had a standard transmission unsure the tire size the vin plates are melted it was engine fire and the cabis toast too so nothing to id what it had in it. Anyways trying to find out what gear ratio I possibly have because it is currently a mystery.

If you have the 3rd member out, just count the teeth on the ring and divide by the number on the pinion. (ie. 41/10=4.10 or 40/7=5.71 etc.)
I would guess that you have a 4.10 based on the truck description, but you will have to verify it by counting.

Ya I'll check the # of teeth on it tomorrow. I am pretty tired pulling that 3rd was a serious PITA to get out of a truck buried in snow and the axle frozen to the ground. I was hoping I got a diff that had 4.56's wishful thinking I guess.
I only paid $75 for it since I pulled it.

With a manual tranny, the likely gears are 4.10 or 4.56
4.30 and 4.88 are common gears for auto tranny.

I've never seen 4.56's on anything but a V6 w/ 31's stock, so I'd be willing to bet yours is a 4.10

I stand corrected <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
It's good to know these gears exist in more applications! I'm not too edumacated on the pickups gearing apparently. My gearing knowledge is leans more towards 4Runners, but even those tend to have gearing that isn't considered standard in their applications.
Are your 4.56 gears in a 4cl or V6 housing? just curious

4.56s came on all trucks(at least theoretically) with a 5 speed and 31" tires, 4 cylinder or V6.

my 89 22re automatic came with 4.56 as well. It was designed to have 225 75/15 tires, not 31's

I was under the impression that 31" tires were only an option with the V6 and that all 22's came with 225's (at least for 89-95 trucks) from the factory.
So a 22RE 5-spd (89-95) pickup would almost always have 4.10's.
Let me know if this is not the case...
