So how the heck are oyu supposed to know what tires to put on if you wanna go factory spec? If I have 4.56 would I put 225s or 265?

Since yours is an auto with the 4.56's and you want to keep it is stock spec's, you don't want to go any taller than the 225's(28") tire. With your auto tranny and 4.56's your stock tire package was the 225's. If you upgraded to oem 4.87's you could then run 31's and be within stock spec's. Or, you could convert your rig to a 5spd and then be able to run 31's with the 4.56's, or 33's with the oem 4.87's, etc.

Never any way to tell, some people say "all 4.56's are 31 stock" some say only stick shift.
No intrest in owning a stick or bigger tires, but eventually I will need new tires, I have 30x9.5 15 and when I replace them I am getting some nice quiet road tires, I jsut wanna know what size I am supposed to have.

stock was 225/75-15.

Although you could use 235/75-15 on up to 31x10.50. Just be a little slower the bigger you go.

Anyone know why a truck would come with 4.30 gears? I just bought a '92 Xcab V6 5spd 4x4 and the axle code is G284. It's got an R150F trans. The jamb sticker says 225/75s were stock. Were they a specific option you could choose, or was it some other trim/mechanical package that came with 4.30s?

If you are happy with the performance(mileage/power/ride) of the 30's, I would buy new 30's when it comes time for new tires. If you want better mpg and power, you should go with the 28" tires.

Yours is the first I have heard of a 3.0 5spd comming stock with anything but 4.10's or 4.56's. I could see the the taller gears for a commercial type rig that was going to be hauling a lot of weight on a constant basis. I wonder if the original owner was planning on a camper conversion or running a commercial bed.

The jamb sticker says 225/75s were stock.

Just an FYI, but I haven't seen a door jamb sticker that actually lists 31x10.50's. This may only apply to certain vehicles, but I know 94 and 95 4Runners don't list them.

If someone can prove me wrong, pleae do so as I'm interested to see if there are any door jamb stickers labeled w/ 31x10.50's.

Don't know if there's a similar trick on a pickup, but you can tell if a 2nd gen 4Runner came with 31's by looking at the way the spare tire lowers. If the crank handle has to go towards the driver's side then it had 31's, if it goes straight in, then it had 225s. Heh, usually the original spare is still under the truck too. That's a pretty easy way to tell <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Hope that in some form or fashion helps

The spare was a totally different size tire on mine, some kind of do-nut tire, but It was missing and I replaced it with a normal sized tire and wheel.
