Never owned a truck before. Previously played a lot with tuned cars.

I think for now I just want to make sure I upkeep this pickup properly. Probably upgrade a bit later once school quits sucking away all my money.

A little history: 95' 4wd pickup, previously owned by fiancee's parents and well maintained, 100K miles, daily driven, occasionally used for hunting here in FL...

My plans: daily driver, capable for responsible offroading (hunting, exploring, etc...), and a whole lot more miles.

So, wanted to say hi and see if anyone has any suggestions or comments?

But if IÆm not mistaken, the 1994+ Isuzu Hombre is really a Chevy S10/S15 in Isuzu clothing, is it not? --- While IÆm certain that everyone here will do their very best to answer any questions you might have, you may want to consider joining a few Chevy/GMC Pick-Up boards as wellà after all, the more sources of information that you have, the better û right?

Smiley, actually he has the last year for the Isuzu made pickup in the U.S. The Isuzu PUP ran from 81-87 and then they changed the body style of the pickup in 1988. He has the 88-95 body style Isuzu pickup. 1996 is the first year for the Isuzu Hombre (or S10/Sonoma look-a-like). A 95 pickup is a good one to have, the last year, and plus you have a 4WD unit. Good luck to you and hope the truck is a good runner/off-roader.

If you've got the 4 cylinder motor, there are some head cracking issues you need to be aware of. I've been told the '95 motor was the least problematic, but you need to use the search feature and review previous threads on that subject. I just got rid of a '95 P'up with the 2.3 and never had any problems (other than the turn signal stalk) in over 120K miles. I put another '95 2.3 motor in my '89 Trooper and have put over 100K on it since.

If you've got the V6, you've got a Chevy derivative with a lot more options.

There's more combined ISUZU knowledge on this forum than I've ever seen. Much more than your dealer and/or local mechanic will have ever experienced. The search feature will keep you and your printer busy for hours.

I guarantee you will come to love your new P'up once you've seen what it's capable of doing off-road. Don't ever underestimate it just because it's not a "popular" brand.

The 2.6 is the motor that has head issues, if overheated. I don;t think the smaller 2.3 has those issues? What size motor is in this truck?

From what I can tell it's a 2.6, but that's just based on what I've found online about the 95 4x4.

I pick it up Thursday next week, currently it's getting checked out by the mechanic that's worked on it since he's had it, so I'm counting that as a plus.

I've built a few VWs (literally... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />), so I'm familiar with wrenching, but I don't know who makes the best service manual for Isuzu, what common issues there are, etc...

I'm in the panhandle of FL, btw. Currently in Graceville at school (n of P.C.).

Haynes and Chilton will get you by for the basics, as far as manuals go, but for the best, you really need the Factory Service Manual from Helm. You can find them on ebay from time to time for a decent price.
