Due to the climate of political correctness now pervading America,
>Kentuckians, Tennesseans, folks from Georgia and West Virginians will no longer be referred to
>as "HILLBILLIES."
>
>You must now refer to us as APPALACHIAN-AMERICANS.

Trick you? Why would we trick you? However, I did have a great aunt who used to sell kudzu plants to northern tourists. Called them "century plants". You had to wait up late at night for several weeks in Nov-Dec to see "the most fantastic bloom you've ever seen! Some say it actually glows in the dark. only lasts about 30 minutes, 45 if you're lucky". Some came back year after year because they "missed it again" last winter...

She said there wasn't much sport in it, but it paid the property taxes, the crop money for which Uncle U-Don had been cheated out of down at the pool hall by the railroad hotels, again. U-Don did not understand that pool was not a game of chance.

I guess it's not a Confederate state secret anymore. We keep the U-Dons around to bemuse the Yankees as we gather the reparations for the War of Northern Agression, one "pecan" log at a time. I can't believe you people really eat those things. Don't you know where we get them?

See, there's no trickin' to it.....

It would seem altogether fitting and proper that since I live in Georgia and am catagorically cast into the role of "Hillbilly" that there should be a similar mold where people of northern descent should be placed...

...I guess us hillbillies are just too polite for that.

Besides, I growed up in South Carolina.

Eddy's got it right with the pecan logs, though. We're a little more subtle than you might give us credit for. Grits ain't no querk of nature, son. You non-southerners who won't even try them don't know what you're amissin'. You will soon become addicted to the flavor and eat them in massive amounts thus becoming large and lethargic. Then, we're coming back for round two.

What's up with Pecan Logs? I've never even heard of them.

And as for grits...I've had them, and you guys are all enjoying a collective psychological delusion. Yuck!

Up in the North East we may be in a hurry, rude, dangerous drivers, think we're intellectually superior, go swimming in an ocean that is too cold for most fish, and lay claim to fat ted.

BUT, at least we don't say that 'grits is good eatin'

I had a lovely bowl of cheese grits (not instant, mind you) this morning - Your palate must be lacking and certainly cannot be as refined as a southerner.

Believe me, we like to eat up here! If Grits were actually worth are time, we'd be eating them.
But you can have them all! We'll stick with our more "refined" tastes...like pancakes smuthered in maple syrup.

Oh, and regarding the Hillbilly thing....we have them up here too. But they're called Vermonters.
